The Analytics Stack
Three modules that turn 35 years of setlist data into meaningful insights. One is live. Two more are coming.
Assigns each song to one of five tiers — Ultra Rare, Rare, Uncommon, Regular, or Staple — based on all-time play rate across 1,039 verified setlists. Powers the rarity badges throughout the app.
Scores any setlist 0–100 using 8 weighted factors. How rare was the set? Were there debuts? Bust-outs? Guest appearances? Every show gets a single number that captures what made it special.
Rolls up individual show scores into a single tour-level rating. Compare any two tours head-to-head. See which runs delivered the deepest cuts, the most surprises, and the highest-scoring nights.
The current tier assignments are based on a preliminary scoring model and should be considered temporary. We're actively developing a more rigorous rarity methodology that accounts for recency, era weighting, and statistical significance — not just raw play counts. The full scoring model and its methodology will be published when it's ready.
Tiers will shift as the model evolves. Songs currently classified in one tier may move up or down as we refine the math. That's the point — we'd rather get it right than get it early.
Behind the Data
Every setlist, note, guest annotation, and venue detail has a documented source. Here's where it all comes from.
1,039 shows with fully documented setlists, painstakingly curated from multiple sources and cross-referenced for accuracy. Every song, every set, every encore — hundreds of hours invested in getting the details right.
Curated editorial annotations — memorable moments, historical context, crowd stories, notable events. Notes are stored as paragraph arrays and presented collapsibly in each show's detail view.
Guest data is documented at the individual setlist-entry level. 146 entries across 104 shows carry named guest performer data, representing 81 unique guests. Each badge is surfaced inline and searchable in song timelines.
Concert poster images sourced from the Pearl Jam poster archive. Bootleg cover art and shop links connect to shop.pearljam.com — 570 of 1,129 shows have official bootleg audio available.
Each song includes songwriter credits, original vs. cover classification, first/last played dates, and cover artist attribution. 786 standalone tag entries were converted from full setlist entries to correct tag annotations — improving rarity accuracy across the database.
720 total venue rows: 639 canonical locations and 81 aliases (renamed, rebuilt, or rebranded venues). Each has GPS coordinates, city/state/country, and an alias timeline. Blueprint overlays use Mapbox static tiles.
Red Mosquito is an independent fan project. We are not affiliated with Pearl Jam, Ten Club, or any official Pearl Jam entity. Show notes draw on fan community records, historical press, and public archives — they are not official band communications. Setlist data may have gaps for some pre-1991 shows and international dates where recordings are incomplete. Uncertain or incomplete setlists are flagged with a status in the database.
